Tuesday, June 29th, 2010
Spa Magazine Cover shot at Mii amo destination spa in Sedona. Mii amo spa in Sedona is one of my favorite luxury destination spas. It is a very special place tucked into a canyon amidst the red rocks of Sedona. We spent about a week in Sedona covering the feature and the cover. This was my 2nd time to Mii amo and loved it just as much this time around. It was an inspiring place, very magical setting and the food was to die for. Mii amo was awarded the best destination spa in the world by Travel & Leisure in 2009.
We shot architecture, gourmet food, landscapes, portraits, lifestyle and spa still life. We had a fabulous time collaborating with the Spa Magazine creative team and the Mii amo staff treated us like royalty. The feature story was about Veronica Cribb who won a week long retreat through a Spa Magazine contest. She is an inspiration. The weather was a bit challenging on this shoot at times. For the cover shot above, I had a jacket underneath my down filled winter coat and was still cold! Check out some behind the scenes photos at the bottom.

Architectural Photography Shoot at Luxury Resort in Napa Valley CA
Wednesday, June 16th, 2010
Here are a few images from a recent architectural photography shoot we did in Napa Valley California at the luxurious Auberge Du Soleil. Auberge is the ultimate experience in luxury and is ranked as one of the world’s best hotels by Travel & Leisure magazine. We stayed in a beautiful suite here for a week during this shoot. It was a great experience and loved our time here. Everyone on the staff was amazing as well and made us feel right at home. We also did motion film of the architecture and food which we will be posting a video soon. A few weeks ago we did another lifestyle & fashion photo shoot here with models. We are still editing those to be posted soon. Auberge is situated on a hill, so the view of the entire property in the photo above was taken from a 60 foot crane. There are some behind the scenes photos of that at the bottom of this post. There are a few gourmet food shots and spa still life shots in here as well.

Luxury Resort and Spa Video in Napa Valley, California
Wednesday, October 14th, 2009This is a short film we did for at a Luxury Eco-friendly Resort, Hotel, and Spa last June in wine country, California. Spa Solage was voted the #2 Spa in the US by Travel & Leisure Magazine. We shot two days with models, alternating between photography stills and video motion. This was shot with the Canon 5D Mark II.
We had a great time on this photography shoot with our fantastic crew and models. We stayed at the resort for a full week spending two days shooting the spa lifestyle content and the remainder shooting architectural, food, and detail photos. This luxury resort is right up our alley, modern design, eco-friendly, luxurious, California cuisine, amazing spa and mineral pool, we were in heaven.

Luxury Resort & Spa in Tahiti
Tuesday, September 1st, 2009
We flew to Tahiti (French Polynesia) to shoot at this luxury Resort and Spa. After three plane flights and short boat ride (two days of travel from San Francisco) we arrived at the private island. This resort was definitely one of the most remote places we have ever been, it truly feels like you are on the edge of the earth. We spent months producing this photography shoot and ended up hiring 4 local models from the main island of Tahiti.
Originally we intended to shoot only photography stills on this trip; however, after talking with some photographer colleagues weeks before our trip we decided to add a motion video element into the mix. That had to be pulled together rather quickly as we were less than two weeks away from leaving San Francisco. The shoot ended up being 2 days of shooting photography stills and 2 days of shooting motion video. It was a great experience.
The trip was not without some major challenges, the main challenge being the weather. We experienced some severe tropical storms with some of the loudest thunder we have ever heard in our lives. Chris nearly got struck by lighting with his camera out on the deck outside of our room. I tried to warn Chris about 4 times to come in and that he should not be standing outside over water with a metal camera and tripod during a lighting storm. He insisted it was fine until the biggest bolt of lighting I have ever seen struck right by him and he got shocked because his foot was on a nail on the deck. We quickly retreated to the (safety?) of our thatched roof bungalow. The staff assured us that these storms were a regular occurrence and there was nothing to worry about, and they pass quickly.
Given the time of year we were there some days it would storm for hours and then we would get 10 or 15 minutes of sunshine. We would stand at the ready and run out and shoot as much as we could before the weather turned again. It is safe to say that our shoot time was cut by at least half by the weather during the trip. Having said that we made the best of it, and took full advantage of those sunny moments. As most photographers are aware of, on every shoot there are things that you cannot control and you have to go with the flow and work with what is in front of you. Weather of course is one of those things.
